Bouillon-Chartier Restaurant (Paris)

Bouillon-Chartier Restaurant, founded in 1896 and classified as an historic monument, the (Bouillon) CHARTIER is a popular restaurant situated at 7 Rue du Faubourg Montmartre (9^th arrondissement), just off the celebrated Grands Boulevards. At the turn of the 19th century, the idea was to serve to the blue collar workers and the people of the neighbourhood a hot meal for a small price: the well-known bouillon a mixture of meat and vegetables. Today, only the diversity of the clients and the menu have changed.  The menu is vast and varied and while the traditional cuisine may not rate as exceptional, it is very affordable. Parisians line up to get in, because the atmosphere is extraordinary. Once inside, it is as though you have stepped back in time – tall ceilings, mirrored glass, waiters in le rondin ( black waistcoat with many pockets) and long white apron. Our experience from many visits is that people totally enjoy the whole experience – you may even find yourself sharing a table with friendly strangers! Highly recommended.
