Hotel Arvor – Dinan, Brittany is in the heart of the medieval quarters of this delightful hilltop town.  We stayed here recently with a view to exploring the region, but Dinan was just so captivating, we ended up spending most of our week exploring and savouring the town. Dinan has many fine old buildings, some of which date from the 13th century plus ramparts and views over the river Rance. About 40 minutes away by car is the renowned Mont St Michel – the second most visited tourist attraction in France, plus St Malo and Cancale – a glorious seaside and seafood extravaganza.

How to get there: By car – 360 Km west of Paris; fast TGV trains operate to St Malo and Rennes which are 30 and 45 minutes respectively from Dinan by car; from Rennes is a local train line to Dinan which takes an hour, with Dinan’s station being 5 minutes from Hotel Arvor. Airports are available near St Malo and Rennes and in Dinard/Pleurtuit, just 20 km from Dinan.

Facilities include an airport shuttle service and bicycle rental. Guests can explore Rue Jerzual, which connects the town to the port of Dinan on the banks of the River Rance.

Things to do: Major historical attractions include the Jacobins Theatre dating from 1224, the flamboyant Gothic St Malo’s Church, the Romanesque St Saviour’s Basilica, Duchess Anne’s Tower and the Château de Dinan. A major highlight in the calendar is Dinan’s Fête des Remparts. The town is transformed with decorations and many locals dress-up in medieval garb for this two-day festival. The festival takes place every other year in July. On Thursday’s a large vibrant market is held and don’t forget Mont St Michel just 30Km away, and closer still St Malo and Cancale.

Parking: Private secure parking is available at 5 euro/day, but must be reserved.
